Public and private schools in Nasarawa State have been urged to participate actively in the 774 annual science competition spearheaded by the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology.
Minister of State for Science and Technology – Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi made the call while playing host to a delegation from Karu Local Government Council – led by the Chairman – Mr Samuel Gajere Akala in Abuja.
The 774 science competition spearheaded by the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology is an annual event geared towards promoting and encouraging the study of science courses by secondary school students across Nigeria.
During the competition, participants drawn from the 774 local government areas in the country engage in intense competition in the basic science subjects of Biology, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry with winners to be sponsored in the university up to PhD level by the Federal Government.
Speaking while playing host to a delegation from Karu Local Government Council, Minister of State for Science and Technology, Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi decried poor participation of Nasarawa State in the yearly competition and stressed the need for urgent change of the situation.
Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi who highlighted the contributions of science and technology in socio-economic development of any society, said Nigeria and Nasarawa State in particular cannot afford to be left behind, hence the need to quickly go back to the drawing board.
While commending Akala for making Karu a shining example to other local governments in the state, the minister urged him to sustain the tempo even as he promised to continually support his administration to succeed.
Earlier, Chairman, Karu Local Government Council and founder MunaTare Socio-Political Group, Samuel Gajere Akala said they were in his office to declare more support to President Muhammadu Buhari and Engineer Abdullahi Sule who have not left the people in doubt of their quest to take the country and the state to the next level.
Samuel Akala particularly appreciated Buhari for granting financial autonomy to local government in June 2019 which made it possible for his government to execute projects that have direct impact on the lives of the people.
