THE NEED TO ESTABLISH R & D BANK – ABDULLAHI

The Hon. Minister of State for Science and Technology, Mohammed H. Abdullahi has reiterated the need for Nigerian to establish Research and Development Bank to support Research activities in the Country.

The Minister reiterated this when he gave his welcome remarks at the Opening Ceremony of the Science, Technology and Innovation Expo, 2021, held on Monday, in Abuja.

He further said that Nigerians STI Sector, if adequately funded, will improve the incentivization of both researchers and investors towards current Global “Biotech Revolution” and self sustainability of the country.

In his words “it’s unacceptable that Africa, comprising 54 nations, with a combined population of 1.216 billion, with its human expertise, scientists and researchers, were unable to produce a vaccine for our people in this critical time of health emergency”

Mohammed H. Abdullahi further stated that STI funding will enable Nigeria to be a key player in the research on vaccine for COVID-19 and other aliment affecting the continent.

The Minister also said that the aim of this year’s Expo is to acquaint inventors with the recent stride made in the Scientific and Technological Development and also to encourage interested entrepreneurs to commercialize their R&D findings.

He thanked President Mohammadu Buhari who was ably represented by the Vice President Prof. Yemi Osibanjo for his genuine, unquestionable and uncontestable love for our dear country which was exemplified in his commitment to lift 100 Nigerians out of poverty.

He further commended the Researchers, inventors, and innovators for their efforts and courage to showcase the result of their hard work, commitment and creativity.
