The Honorable Minister of State for Fmst Nigeria , Mohammed H Abdullahi paid a working visit to Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi (@fiiro_official ) where he was received by Management and Staff of the Institute on Tuesday in Lagos . The Minister was amazed with the world class Labs in the Institute , he interacted with the researchers to assess ongoing upgrade of equipments by President Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigeria Government which started over the last 6 years.
The Ag. DG of Fiiro Lagos , Dr (Mrs) Agnes Asagbra after a short brief at the Agency’s conference room , then took the Minister and his entourage round on a facility tour. The Minister in his words “am quite impressed with the upgrade of the Materials and Mechanical Laboratories for mineral resources analysis and beneficiations”.
The laboratory also has heat treatment furnace for changing the structure of materials and also improve their mechanical properties, among others the Tensile and hardness testing machines.,Testrometric machine for compressive and tensile strength.
The Hon. Minister , Abdullahi also inspected progress of works at the Enzyme Lab, Mushroom Lab, Culture Lab, Molecular Lab, Mycotoxin Lab, Fermentation Lab for Production of industrial enzymes using m/o on Agro-industrial wastes such as rice bran, wheat bran etc.
The ag. DG explained to the Minister that the equipment upgrade has made it possible to domesticate R&D activities within the Institute without recourse to sending such results abroad for further analysis thus preserving Nig FoRex. That from their various Laboratories 🇳🇬 can now produce intermediate products such as Glucose syrup, animal feed, Ethanol, Useful industrial Microorganisms are isolated, xterise and identified. These cultures are then lyophilized and made available for the production of useful substances such as antibiotics etc.
Microorganisms are Xterised molecularly tru phylogenetic tree and identified to genus level, determination of the molecular weight of our enzymes.Microorganisms are developed and used for the production of wines/spirit, Biogas and Bio fertilizer etc.
The Hon. Minister thanked the Management of Fiiro Lagos for welcoming him despite the short notice and also thanked them for job welldone while encouraging them to do more for the economic growth of the nation in-line with the president Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment in lifting millions out of poverty creating an enabling environment for job/wealth creation..
